I am amazed at the way God stretches us. We think we’ve been stretched all we can be stretched. But as soon as we start getting used to the new us—as soon as we think we’ve got it—God puts us in a new situation or drops a new thought in our minds and, all of a sudden, we’re [...]

Self: Petty

Posted on February 22, 2010. Filed under: Fellowship & Community, Following Jesus | Tags: , |

Following Your Heart or Following Your Mind?

Posted on February 9, 2010. Filed under: Q&A, Theology & Worship, Truth Lived Out | Tags: , |

Concerning heart and mind, I think it would be a grave mistake to pit one against the other or favor either heart or mind over the other. I think many in the Church today have a tendency towards extremism. For instance, they might see some people depending too much on emotions, so, in response to [...]

The Parable of the Lazy Slave

Posted on February 6, 2010. Filed under: Moral Compass, Theology & Worship, Truth Lived Out | Tags: , , , , |

If we continue to do nothing with our lives, our fear becomes an excuse for laziness. At first laziness is a choice. Although I wrote this essay about seven years ago, it still rings very true for me.  I hope there is something in it for you as well…
As the first chords were played, the audience of young people stood and began singing and clapping along with the music.  Many raised their hands.  Some sat or even [...]

The Waiting Room

Posted on December 30, 2009. Filed under: Truth Lived Out |

All those things that just minutes earlier were so important and so urgent no longer seem to be. The sink full of dishes. The work deadline. The dinner reservations. None of those things matter anymore. All that matters is being there.

Letters to Little C: How Can You Be Sure?

Posted on November 3, 2009. Filed under: Following Jesus, Letters to Little C, Moral Compass, Theology & Worship, Truth Lived Out | Tags: , , , , , , , |

I remembered back to the one science class I took in college. In lab I learned that, since test results vary, it is best to take many measurements in order to ascertain the most accurate results. A fact is not scientifically viable unless it can be tested repeatedly and render like results.
